Salary Plan/Grade- District Sign Technician I: A16 ($40,918.00 – $61,130.00 per year)
- District Sign Technician II: A17 ($42,976.00 – $64,469.00 per year)

Job ResponsibilitiesPerforms entry‑level transportation‑related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation.
Performs skilled transportation‑related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators. Work includes maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools and equipment.
Essential Duties for District Sign Technician I:
- Assist transportation maintenance crews with maintenance‑related work as required; may respond to emergency situations.
- Move equipment, tools, materials, and products.
- Issue signs to maintenance sections/transportation crews; use tools and equipment and move signs and related materials.
- Measure and calculate amount of materials needed.
- Mix and place concrete for sign support foundations; move cement bags and other items related to these duties.
- Operate a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.
- Operate radios.
- Perform and maintain inventory of signs.
- Perform preventive maintenance on sign truck.
- Repair and install signs, supports, foundations, and delineators in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Duties for District Sign Technician II:
- Order supplies and materials from district shop.
- Order signs from the regional sign shop.
- Conduct nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retro reflective pavement markers (RPMs).
- Inspect roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.
- Move equipment, tools, materials, and products.
Education: None required.
Experience: None required. Related college education or relevant technical training may substitute experience on a year‑per‑year basis.
District Sign Technician IIEducation: None required.
Experience: One year of sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
Licenses and CertificationsMust have a valid Commercial Class “A” Driver License (CDL) with a N endorsement and no restrictions.
