SEND Tutor Pay: £30.00-£50.00 per hour

Job Description:

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SEND Tutor to work 1:1 with a KS3 learner with Down syndrome who experiences significant difficulties accessing mainstream education. This role is based within a school setting and focuses on delivering highly personalised, accessible learning tailored to the learner’s needs.

The successful candidate will be confident teaching Functional Skills Maths and English and able to adapt lessons to support engagement, independence, and confidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver 1:1 tuition within a school environment
  • Teach Functional Skills Maths and English at an appropriate level
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support a learner with Down syndrome
  • Create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment
  • Use differentiated, multi-sensory approaches to learning
  • Support the learner’s engagement, communication, and confidence
  • Monitor progress and adapt teaching accordingly
  • Liaise with school staff, SEND teams, and parents/carers as required
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience teaching learners with Down syndrome
  • Experience working with KS3-aged learners
  • Confident teaching Functional Skills Maths and English
  • Experience delivering 1:1 SEND tuition
  • Patient, flexible, and nurturing approach
  • Strong understanding of barriers to learning and inclusive strategies
Desirable
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
  • Experience supporting learners who struggle to access mainstream education
  • Familiarity with EHCPs and personalised learning plans
  • Experience working within a school or alternative provision setting
