Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you a recent engineering graduate looking for more than a traditional graduate role?

Our client is offering a multidisciplinary graduate scheme that offers the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience across multiple areas of an innovative engineering business before deciding where you want to specialise.

You’ll work on live customer projects, gaining exposure to design, electrical engineering, automation, manufacturing, project management and sales. Rather than being confined to one department, you’ll become a valued member of each team you work with, developing practical and transferable skills along the way.

The programme typically runs for around 2 years and 10 months, with each placement designed to build your technical knowledge, commercial awareness and confidence.

What will you experience?

Design Engineering – 9 months
  • 3D CAD design using Solid Works
  • Creating manufacturing drawings
  • Working closely with the manufacturing team
  • Developing your understanding of how products are designed and manufactured
  • Hands‑on experience within the factory, including laser cutting, pressing and welding
Electrical Engineering – 6 months
  • Producing electrical schematics, P&IDs, I/O lists and network diagrams
  • Designing control panels and electrical enclosures
  • Producing manufacturing drawings
  • Electrical assembly and control panel testing
Automation – 6 months
  • Developing and testing automation control systems
  • Working with industry-standard Siemens and Allen‑Bradley software
  • SCADA development
  • Panel testing and internal commissioning
Manufacturing – 3 weeks

You’ll get genuine hands‑on experience across the manufacturing process, including:

  • Laser cutting and machining
  • Pressing and fabrication
  • MIG, TIG and laser welding
  • Assembly and fitting
Projects – 6 months
  • Taking responsibility for your own live customer projects
  • Communicating with customers, suppliers and internal teams
  • Supporting project delivery from start to finish
  • Opportunities to attend customer sites for surveys, installation and commissioning
Sales – 6 months
  • Preparing quotations and cost estimates
  • Supporting proposal writing
  • Providing technical support to customers
  • Attending customer visits and site surveys
Training & Development

You won’t be left to figure it out alone.

You’ll have a dedicated mentor and structured training plan throughout the programme, with regular reviews to track your development, goals and achievements.

As you progress through each placement, you’ll build a portfolio of evidence documenting the skills and experience you’ve gained. This can also provide useful evidence towards your longer‑term professional development and potential route towards Chartered Engineer status.

At the end of the scheme, you’ll have a formal review with senior management to discuss your progress and identify the department and career path that best suits your strengths and ambitions.

What we're looking for

We’re looking for graduates who are curious, practical and keen to understand how different areas of engineering work together.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A minimum 2:1 in an IMechE‑accredited engineering degree, with Mechanical or Mechatronics particularly relevant
  • A genuine interest in engineering, technology and problem‑solving
  • A willingness to work across design, electrical, automation, projects and sales
  • Experience with CAD, particularly Solid Works or AutoCAD, is desirable
  • Programming experience is desirable
  • Relevant work experience, placements or extracurricular engineering projects
  • The ability to take initiative and responsibility
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • A full driving licence
What's on offer?
  • Structured progression with pay increases following completion of placements
  • Company pension scheme with contributions matched up to 5%
  • 22 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 25 days in your third year
  • Free on‑site parking
  • Regular company‑funded social events
  • Graduate and department socials
  • A dedicated mentor throughout each placement
  • The opportunity to work on real engineering projects from day one
  • Broad exposure to the full product lifecycle, from design and manufacture through to installation and commissioning
  • The opportunity to build a long‑term engineering career within a growing business
More than a graduate scheme

You’ll gain experience that many graduates take years to build - working alongside experienced engineers, getting hands‑on with real projects and seeing how an engineered product goes from an initial concept through design, manufacture and delivery.

You’ll also become part of a sociable and supportive team, with regular company‑funded events and activities alongside graduate‑organised socials.

If you're looking for a graduate role where you can learn, get hands‑on experience and make a genuine contribution from the start, this could be the opportunity for you.
