About usSue Ryder St John’s Hospice is located in Moggerhanger, Bedfordshire. We provide expert palliative and end‑of‑life care in the hospice and the community, helping patients and their loved ones with pain and symptom management, emotional and practical support.
About the RoleIn palliative care, no two days are the same. Our inpatient unit cares for people with a wide range of conditions and symptoms, offering a unique opportunity to develop knowledge and skills while making a meaningful difference to patients and their families.
Our nurses provide compassionate, holistic care for people with life‑limiting illnesses, supporting not only physical needs but also the emotional, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing of patients and those close to them.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team with specialty doctors, therapists, volunteers, and other colleagues to deliver the best possible outcomes for each patient.

While experience in palliative care (hospice, high‑dependency unit, oncology service) is welcomed, we also value candidates from a range of clinical backgrounds and provide training and support to develop the specialist skills needed for this role.
MinimumEssential Criteria
- NMC registration (RGN/RNA) and experience delivering inclusive patient care
- Ability to assess, plan, and deliver care with appropriate adjustments
- Skilled in accessible documentation and patient communication
- Commitment to upholding patients’ dignity, rights, and autonomy
- Experience in palliative or hospice care
- Mentorship qualification or experience supporting learners
- A passion for palliative and end‑of‑life care
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and initiative
- Evidence of continued professional development and willingness to learn
We will provide a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role, and full training/competency assessment will be provided. There is plenty of scope to further develop your own skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through our education programme and development framework is encouraged.
