Nissin Ion Equipment USA, Inc. (NIUSA), a Sumitomo Electric Group (SEG) Company, is seeking an Implant Engineer to work in an R&D environment with the engineering team and scientists to develop new technologies for ion implanters. The Implant Engineer will have a proven track record of excellence as an Implant Engineer at NIUSA, with strong skills in engineering, technical service, and teamwork, all aimed at strengthening the R&D of NIUSA.

Additionally, this role involves mentoring FSEs to enhance their technical expertise and professional development. This position requires on-site presence every working day in our North Billerica, MA Office.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Working in an R&D environment with the engineering team and scientists to develop new technologies for ion implanters.
  • Perform maintenance, operate the ion implanter, and troubleshoot problems as they arise.
  • Assist with facilities management, including water chillers, air compressors, HVAC equipment, and nitrogen gas delivery systems.
  • On call 24/7 for any emergency facility issues on off‑hours.
  • Represent Nissin Ion Equipment Japan, NIUSA, and SEG with professionalism, integrity, and technical excellence.
  • Lead by example, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support internal and external reporting needs, including customer presentations and performance updates.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic initiatives and follow through on recommendations.
  • Ensure proper service documentation and record‑keeping.
  • Plan and supervise service activities, as needed.
  • Encourage open communication within the R&D team and solicit feedback for improvements.
  • Submit weekly operational status reports to leadership.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through training, seminars, and conferences.
  • Comply with and model NIUSA policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • At least 2+ years’ experience successfully working with an Ion Implanter, or other accelerator‑based technology experience.
  • Requires mechanical assembly skills, electrical troubleshooting skills, vacuum system experience, vacuum leak check skills, and knowledge and experience with robotic wafer handling systems.
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related fields.
  • (Preferably) Requires Respirator certification and Forklift operator qualification. Trainings will be provided for both of the certification and qualification as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of industry‑related laws and regulations, stats/local regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively with the diverse backgrounds of staff across the globe.
  • Ability to effectively gather, analyze, and interpret data and conduct needs assessments.
  • Good attention to detail with high degree of accuracy and great time management.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills in order to effectively interact with coworkers and vendors.
Working Conditions
  • Stand by for potential calls for emergency facility issues 24 hours a day, in cooperation with management staff. The Implant Engineer will often be required to enter the clean room and follow all the clean room protocols. At times, a heavy item may need to be replaced. The Implant Engineer is often required to work with toxic gases and chemicals. Also, it requires gas bottle changes and cleaning of contaminated components in a flow hood as part of assembly rebuilds.

    The Implant Engineer is expected to follow all NIUSA and site safety rules, including, but not limited to, lock‑out tag‑out, the two‑man worker rule, and proper gas handling.

The base annual salary for this position is $95,000 to $100,000 (Full‑Time, Exempt Position). Compensation may vary depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, competencies and location.
