Essex Job Type: Full-time Experience Level: Intermediate About the Role We are looking for a talented and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with experience in mechanical building services who is looking to develop their technical expertise and take responsibility for delivering high-quality designs across a variety of projects.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical building services, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary design team.

The Role As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting and delivering mechanical building services designs from concept through to detailed design and construction. You will work closely with clients, architects, electrical engineers, CAD technicians, contractors and other project stakeholders to develop practical, coordinated and technically compliant solutions. The role will involve a combination of design, calculations, technical documentation, coordination and project support.

Key Responsibilities Design mechanical building services installations across a range of projects. Develop mechanical designs from concept through to detailed design and construction. Carry out heating, cooling and ventilation calculations. Design HVAC systems, including heating, cooling and ventilation installations. Develop domestic water services and public health systems where required. Select appropriate mechanical equipment and systems. Produce mechanical specifications, schedules and technical reports.

Work closely with CAD technicians to produce accurate mechanical drawings. Coordinate mechanical services with electrical, architectural and structural designs. Review drawings and models to identify and resolve clashes and design issues. Attend project meetings and contribute to technical discussions. Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and other consultants. Assist with site surveys, inspections and technical assessments. Review technical submissions and equipment information.

Ensure designs comply with relevant UK regulations, standards and project requirements. Manage design tasks and deliver work within agreed project programmes and deadlines. Provide technical support to junior engineers and technicians where appropriate. Essential Skills & Experience Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline . Previous experience in mechanical building services design.

Good understanding of HVAC and mechanical building services systems. Experience carrying out mechanical design calculations. Ability to interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings. Strong understanding of technical design principles and coordination. Good knowledge of UK building services practices and standards. Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to design. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Desirable Skills

Experience with AutoCAD .

Experience with Revit / BIM . Knowledge of mechanical design software and calculation packages. Familiarity with CIBSE guidance and relevant British Standards.

Experience with HVAC, domestic water and public health design.

Experience with in an MEP consultancy, contractor or building services environment. Working towards or holding CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent professional accreditation .
