This role is for Maternity Cover (12 months).

Role & Responsibilities
  • Design and implement integrated communications strategies that align with business objectives and reflect both local and global priorities.
  • Enhance the company’s overall reputation within the UK and globally, fostering organizational trust and motivation.
  • Content Development for internal and external channels.
  • Oversee creation of compelling content, including press releases, reports, blogs, and internal communications.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with key media outlets.
  • Support leadership in establishing a strong voice within the industry at local level but with global impact.
  • Partner with regional offices and the global corporate affairs teams to ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms.
Qualifications And Experience

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in communications, media, or digital channels.

Experience

  • Significant senior communications leadership experience (typically 8+ years) in complex, matrixed organisations.
  • Proven track record of developing and delivering integrated communications strategies aligned to business goals.
  • Hands‑on experience of internal communications at scale (frontline and professional populations) and external media relations.
  • Demonstrable crisis/issues management experience, including incident communications and business continuity support.
  • Experience advising senior leaders and acting as a strategic communications partner (coach, ghostwriter, spokesperson prep).
  • Managing agencies/suppliers and controlling budgets; building and leading high‑performing teams.
  • Content leadership across channels: intranet, town halls, email, social, web, print; and executive communications.
  • Stakeholder engagement with regulators, industry bodies, local community groups, and public sector partners.

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of the UK media landscape and social/digital ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing/biotech/pharma or similarly regulated, technical environments.
  • Knowledge of reputation risk management, narrative and message architecture, and measurement frameworks.
  • Understanding of DEI, employee engagement, and change communications best practice.
  • Awareness of information security, data protection (UK GDPR), and compliance considerations in comms.

Skills

  • Strategic planning: audience insight, channel mix, content calendar, KPIs, and evaluation.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills; ability to translate complex technical topics into plain English.
  • Executive presence and credibility; confident adviser to SLT with sound judgement under pressure.
  • Media handling: briefing, Q&A, statements, reactive/proactive outreach; able to act as or prepare spokespeople.
  • Digital and analytics literacy: CMS, email platforms, social publishing, monitoring/listening, and dashboarding.
