We are seeking an experienced,
full-time
Air Traffic Control Instructor to join the SAIC Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team at the Billings ATCT / TRACON (
BIL
) in Billings, MT, supporting air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The successful candidate must demonstrate strong technical skills with current ATC automation, simulation systems, and procedures. Responsibilities include mentoring students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPO), as well as participating in curriculum design and development. The candidate should also have the knowledge and skills necessary for obtaining radar and/or non-radar simulation laboratory certifications at FAA air traffic control facilities within the U.S. National Airspace System.
This CTS Instructor role is hands-on, requiring the delivery of high-quality classroom and simulation laboratory training to a diverse range of students, including developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPC).
The FAA is responsible for ensuring that air traffic control specialists provide safe and professional services to the flying public. With over 14,000 air traffic controllers, the FAA safely manages the separation of more than 50,000 aircraft daily in the NAS.
The FAA trains new air traffic control specialists and provides recurrent training to current specialists. Contractor-provided instructional services are utilized at FAA ATC facilities nationwide to meet these training needs, covering all levels of ATC facilities.
Qualifications
Required:
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Minimum of five (5) years of FAA CPC experience controlling live traffic or recent experience as a contract Instructor at an FAA facility, at the same or higher level as the Billings ATCT / TRACON.
Desired
Skills and Experience:
- Experience as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC) at Billings ATCT / TRACON is preferred but not required.
- Operational experience with ATC simulators, including scenario design (e.g., TSS, AT Coach, SGET).
- Ability to effectively interface with FAA personnel at all levels to ensure training services meet facility and FAA mission needs.
- Proven teaching skills, classroom management, and a student-focused approach for continuous improvement.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) certification required, with the ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Certification for Simulation Laboratory and Classroom.
