Senior Mechanical Power Engineer role at HDR
. HDR’s Power Generation team seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a national, multi‑discipline group that supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. Primary duties typically involve leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines
  • Monitor and communicate project status; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects (technical and contractual)
  • Develop deliverables such as construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates
  • Apply experience with design and specification of power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers from several other disciplines on project tasks
  • Role varies based on project size and team capabilities; may include lead mechanical engineer, project engineering manager, or project manager responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design
  • Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise
  • Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation
  • Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm desired
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
  • Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget
  • Travel expectation of less than 10% for client and vendor meetings and project site visits
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience
  • Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license
  • Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, and Revit)
