Position: Command Pilot (PIC)

Summary

The Pilot-In-Command (PIC) reports directly to the Chief Pilot/Assistant Chief Pilot and is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments. The Chief Pilot/Assistant Chief Pilot may delegate certain functions to the PIC to operate in their absence, ensuring compliance with Company and FAA requirements. The PIC is responsible for all duties as outlined in the BFS General Operations Manual (GOM).

Qualifications

  • Must thoroughly understand and embody Billings Flying Services policies, procedures, and core values.
  • Extensive knowledge of FAA regulations, Operations Specifications, Flight Manuals, BFS GOM, Training Manual, SOPs, and FAA/USFS Manuals.
  • Minimum of 3500 total flight hours, including 2500 PIC hours and 1500 turbine hours; tandem rotor experience is a plus.
  • Must meet USFS hour requirements and possess USFS Aerial Firefighting helicopter experience.
  • Maintain a Second-Class Medical.
  • Type rated in CH-47D (BV234) is preferred.
  • Proficient in Vertical Reference and NVG qualified.
  • Available for domestic and international assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure Flight Safety.
  • Supervise field crew and copilots; issue directives and notices as required.
  • Assist in pilot training, conduct audits/inspections, and perform other aviation duties as directed.
  • Participate in pilot training when qualified.
  • Contribute to the Safety Management System by reporting hazards and incidents, and promoting safety policies.
  • Review flight assignments, weather, and operational information.
  • Prepare flight plans considering operational factors.
  • Ensure aircraft is pref lighted, inspected, loaded, and equipped properly.
  • Adhere to duty and flight time limitations; ensure proper certification and rest.
  • Verify all required forms and equipment are on board.
  • Record and communicate mechanical issues to maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and maintenance procedures.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Work in austere field settings; exposure to noise, dust, odors, and fumes.
  • Occasionally lift items up to 50 lbs.
