Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer
Maintenance Technicians are responsible for maintaining the extensive heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems in the hospital. They may operate boilers, air‑conditioning equipment, diesel engines, turbines, pumps, condensers, generators, and compressors, start up, regulate, shut down, or repair this equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Routine maintenance and small repairs (e.g., welding, plumbing, electrical work) are part of the job.
Off‑hour work may be required.
- Service and repair heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, including fans, motors, radiators, thermostats, dampers, regulation controls, filters, and fluids.
- Perform routine manual duties such as moving supplies, removing trash or scrap, and replacing light bulbs.
- Adjust to change and handle new requirements or assignments promptly.
- Practice good infection control, safety, quality assurance, and risk‑management techniques.
- Maintain utilities (generators, smoke purge system, electronics, etc.).
- Maintain a neat and orderly environment.
- Meet training and certification responsibilities.
- Provide security of physical plant, grounds, and campus buildings.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
- High‑school diploma. Maintenance certification preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions; proficiency in mathematics, computer, reasoning, and language skills preferred.
- Physical ability to perform heavy work or lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, and use hand tools.
- Training in a related maintenance field (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) preferred.
- Completion of CPR certification and an Oceans‑approved behavioral health de‑escalation program.
- Strong safety and infection‑control practices.
Subject to many interruptions and occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. The position can be high‑paced and stressful; requires coping mentally and physically. Approximately 90% or more of the time is spent inside a building with no weather protection but temperature changes may occur.
