Overview
The Accounting Assistant works in cooperation with the Fiscal Director and other employees in the Fiscal office to complete required daily, monthly, and yearly responsibilities. Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.

Preferred: Associate’s Degree in accounting; minimum 3 years of experience in the accounting field.
Required: Working knowledge of accounting principles; working knowledge of MS Office and Excel; ability to work independently; ability to work effectively and communicate as part of the fiscal team; valid NYS driver’s license.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Consistently pays vendors by monitoring discount opportunities, verifying federal , scheduling and preparing checks, and resolving invoice or payment discrepancies and documentation.
- Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
- Protects the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Audits invoices to ensure appropriate general ledger account coding is applied.
- Reviews documentation for accuracy, completeness, and relevancy.
- Ensures that invoices align with their corresponding purchase orders upon processing.
- Reconciles vendor statements to ensure all invoices and/or credit memos have been received and processed.
- Identifies and researches discrepancies and escalates accordingly.
- Assists with invoice research, resolving issues, and documentation for audits.
- Maintains files including filing accounts payable documentation and other miscellaneous filings.
- Answers telephone inquiries as needed.
- Assists employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services.
- Other duties as assigned.
The physical demands include: regularly sitting; using hands to finger, handle, or feel; talking or hearing; occasionally standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
