As a Teacher you will provide educational instruction to individuals with mental illness. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

• Preparing course and unit outlines, lesson plans, and individual education plans
• Evaluating and documenting individuals’ performance and progress
• Collaborating with treatment team to work toward treatment goals and objectives

• Teacher 2 – Current New York State Education Department initial certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty.
• Teacher 3 – Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty.
• Teacher 4 – Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty and 2 years of post‑certification teaching experience in that same specialty.
• Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on a current Teacher eligible list.
• Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55‑b/55‑c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
