Position: Clinical Assistant-Urology-Full Time
Location: City of Binghamton

Position Summary

Performs duties of a clinical and clerical nature. Maintains records and applies knowledge and skills to run a fully functioning office for one or more providers in a clinic. Assists professional staff by performing routine duties in caring for patients.

Essential Functions
  • Interview patient to obtain medical history.
  • Determine vital signs (weight, temperature, blood pressure, etc.) and document in the patient’s medical record.
  • Assist provider during exam and treatment.
  • Direct patient to examination room and prepare patient for examination and treatment.
  • Act as liaison between patients, providers, hospital staff, etc.
  • Process ancillary reports and all other patient results, provide to provider for review and assist with patient communication.
  • Greet patients and update pertinent information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Route patient after exam to proper area for visit completion.
  • May be required to do phlebotomy.
  • May perform high‑level disinfection based on departmental equipment.
  • Answer telephones and schedule patient appointments.
  • Takes messages of a medical nature (requests for prescription refills, test results, etc.).
  • Perform other clerical functions as necessary.
  • Exhibit good telephone etiquette.
  • Quote patient self‑pay balances at time of scheduling.
  • Inform patients of their financial obligations.
  • Direct patients to the patient representative for assistance with their account.
  • Apply principles of disinfection/sterilization/disease transmission/universal precautions per clinic and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate level of supplies.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings, and contribute to department/office goals.
  • Become familiar with ICD‑9 and CPT coding.
  • Clean, stock, and prepare exam rooms.
  • Coordinate patient appointments for X‑ray, CT scans, physical therapy, etc., as ordered by the providers.
  • Assist with obtaining and processing referral and pre‑certification requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality, respect, and consideration of patients and others.
  • Apply Guthrie values (patient centeredness, teamwork, excellence) when performing daily tasks.
  • Maintain equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and clinic policies and procedures.
  • Perform and document quality control on equipment as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Dependable, professional, flexible, and able to multi‑task.
Experience

Relevant experience in a clinical or medical office environment is preferred.
