UHS Binghamton General Hospital is hiring a Operating Room Technician, full time, 40 hours weekly, day shift!
The Operating Room Technician works under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique, maintains asepsis, anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed. Actively participates in patient care and safety. Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff.

** UHS Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NYUHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NYWilson Place, UHS Wilson Medical Campus, Johnson City, NYThere is more than one location associated with this position. This is either because there are multiple openings at different sites, or the successful candidate will be required to float across multiple UHS facilities. * * Compensation Range:**$25.27 - $37.90 per hour, depending on experience----
- * Follows Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.
* Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
* Assists the surgeon when needed gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.
* Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.
* Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count.
* Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems. Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.
* Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards to the surgeon, RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment.
* Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room.
* Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource, and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.
* Assists in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction of the surgeon.
* Handles and identifies specimens per policy.
* Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases.
* Takes rotating call duty.
** Education/Experience
*** Minimum

Required:

+ High School diploma or equivalent
* Preferred:  + Previous Operating Room experience  + Previous Surgical Technologist experience
**** License/Certification
***** Minimum

Required:

+ Meets the NYS Surgical Technologist Certification Law; OR Completed a Surgical Technologist program in the Armed Forces; OR Completed a nationally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist with a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credential  + CPR Certification within 3 months of hire-----#
