Compensation Range
: $25.27 - $37.90 per hour, depending on experience

• Tends to follow Infection Control policies and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.
• Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra‑operatively.
• Assists the surgeon when needed: gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure; anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.
• Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.
• Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count.
• Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards; identifies conflicts or problems; cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.
• Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards to the surgeon, RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment.
• Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room.
• Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource, and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.
• Assists in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction of the surgeon.
• Handles and identifies specimens per policy.
• Expedites the effective and efficient turn‑over of the OR between cases.
• Takes rotating call duty.

Education/Experience

• Minimum
  
  Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
• Preferred:
  • Previous Operating Room experience
  • Previous Surgical Technologist experience

License/Certification

• Minimum
  
  Required:
  • Meets the NYS Surgical Technologist Certification Law; OR Completed a Surgical Technologist program in the Armed Forces; OR Completed a nationally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist with a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credential
  • CPR Certification within 3 months of hire
