QBE Accounts and Tax Senior

This is a fantastic opportunity for a QBE practice accountant, who wants real variety in their working day, not another nine-to-five behind a screen. You'll spend the majority of your time on accounts and tax work for a loyal portfolio of small business, corporate and personal clients, and the rest of your time as the friendly, capable face of a well-established local practice - greeting visitors, answering the phone and keeping the office running smoothly.

• A qualified or QBE (Qualified by Experience) accountant with solid practice experience in accounts and/or tax
• Someone who enjoys being part of a small, close-knit team and doesn't mind wearing more than one hat - from preparing accounts to greeting clients and supporting the running of the practice
• Someone who values a genuinely calm, low-volume office, over a high-pressure, fast-growth environment.

This is a well-established, award-winning firm of chartered accountants based in Wirral, Merseyside, known locally for its close, long-standing relationships with owner-managed businesses. The team has built a reputation for genuinely getting to know its clients rather than treating them as a number, and that same collegiate, personal approach carries through to how the office runs day to day. The firm is looking for one dependable person to combine hands-on accounts and tax work with the practical day-to-day running of the office, rather than splitting that workload across separate roles. This is a settled, established practice rather than one in the middle of rapid change, so the role suits someone looking for a long-term, steady fit rather than a stepping stone to somewhere else.

• Preparing small business and personal accounts
• Preparing and filing corporate and personal tax returns
• Managing a portfolio of simple business, corporate and personal clients

• Raising bills and allocating receipts
• Setting up new clients on internal systems
• Assisting more broadly with the day-to-day running of the practice

• Greeting clients and visitors as the first point of contact
• Answering the phone and handling a low volume of calls (fewer than 10 per day on average)
• Supporting around two client meetings a day, including making refreshments for visitors

• Qualified or QBE (Qualified by Experience) accountant
• Prior experience working in a similarly sized accountancy practice is essential
• Experience in accounts and/or tax (ideally both)
• A sociable, friendly personality – comfortable being the first face clients see
• Comfortable with a role that blends technical work with administrative and reception duties
• Looking for stability and consistency in a friendly and supportive environment
