We are seeking a proactive account manager to oversee key accounts and drive profitability, customer satisfaction, and compliance.

About

The Role

You will be responsible for the account management of key accounts to agreed targets and achieve best in class customer satisfaction through proactive management of customer strategic objectives for service levels, environmental performance and legal compliance. You will work to improve profit margins on all key accounts by identifying low margin/loss making work and negotiating price increases / introducing alternative services.

You will be measured by achievement of account management targets, long‑term profit margin improvement to each customer and the reduction of debt. You will be responsible for coordinating the customer reviews and documenting meetings, service improvement plans, and price negotiations.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Building relationships with existing clients and responding to any underlying customer concerns to secure extra services and margin increases.
  • Carry out site audits and site visits to benchmark services and support quoting.
  • Prepare Site Waste Management Plans for each site, review them annually, and coordinate mobilisation planning meetings.
  • Conduct performance and duty of care compliance audits.
  • Develop service improvement plans across the portfolio.
  • Prepare quotations, presentations for contract variations or new sites.
  • Complete and review customer documentation for accurate entry into the company system.
  • Review first‑produced invoices for accuracy and assist credit control with invoice queries and debtor days.
  • Review environmental reports and gather contractor details for reporting.
  • Assist customer service with sub‑contractor issue resolution.
  • Review income statements monthly to meet profit margin targets.
  • Prepare tenant packs and conduct tenant training sessions.
  • Develop showcase sites to leverage with potential new customers.
  • Work with the Outsourcing Manager to optimise supplier quality, SLA compliance, and margins.
  • Assist with annual/bi‑annual price negotiations and ensure administrative updates.
  • Enter any requested service changes into systems for accurate invoicing.
  • Provide summary reports to customers quarterly/annually on service success and cost savings.
  • Co‑ordinate duty of care audits with subcontractors and the Supply Chain Manager.
  • Manage cash flow, dispute resolution, and minimise bad‑debt exposure.
  • Promote a verbal communication ethos and “one‑person holds the problem” attitude.
  • Review complaint escalations and develop long‑term corrections.
  • Prepare monthly reports to management on key performance indicators.
Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience in an account management role.
  • Knowledge of the waste industry (advantageous).
  • Self‑confident, enthusiastic and able to communicate at all levels (verbal and written).
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload proactively.
