Senior Buying Manager - Chilled Food

A major food retailer and wholesaler in the North West is seeking a Senior Buying Manager to take ownership of the Buying and Category strategy for one of their Chilled Food divisions. This award‑winning business is recognised not only for the quality of its products and service, but also for the way it supports and develops its people.

You’ll be responsible for shaping, building and delivering a commercially successful category, using your market insight and product expertise to create a compelling range. The role requires sourcing and onboarding new suppliers, strengthening relationships with existing partners, and negotiating the most competitive cost prices. A significant part of the job involves developing and innovating within own‑label, working closely with UK and international suppliers, and ensuring all price files and contracts are accurately maintained.

You’ll also lead in‑season promotional activity to maximise sales, profit and supplier income.

You’ll bring solid Buying or Trading experience from the FMCG retail sector and be confident managing a category end‑to‑end with full autonomy. A proven ability to build strong supplier partnerships, deliver category strategy and drive sales is essential. You’ll be accountable for margin and profitability, ensuring the business stays ahead of the market, sets trends and meets customer expectations. Strong negotiation skills and sharp commercial judgement will underpin your success.
