SEN Teaching Assistant - Wirral
Talent Board is supporting a growing number of primary, secondary and specialist SEND schools across the Wirral, and we're looking for enthusiastic, reliable SEN Teaching Assistants to join our team. Whether you're seeking flexible supply work, consistent long-term roles or experience across a variety of school settings, we have opportunities available in Birkenhead, Wallasey, Bebington, West Kirby, Moreton, Hoylake and surrounding areas.
This role is ideal for anyone passionate about helping children with additional needs flourish both academically and emotionally.
What you'll be doing
- Supporting teachers in planning and delivering tailored activities for pupils with a wide range of SEND needs, including autism, SEMH, global delay and communication needs.
- Providing focused 1:1 support and small-group interventions to help pupils develop key skills and access learning at their own pace.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and using de-escalation or regulation strategies when required.
- Helping create a calm, predictable learning environment that supports sensory, emotional and behavioural needs.
- Assisting with personal care or mobility needs where appropriate, ensuring dignity, comfort and respect at all times.
- Communicating effectively with teaching staff, SENCOs, parents and external specialists to support consistent progress.
- Supporting with classroom organisation, visual aids, and resources to promote an inclusive learning space.
- Upholding safeguarding responsibilities and promoting pupil wellbeing throughout the school day.
What we're looking for
- Previous experience working with children or young people is beneficial, but we also welcome applicants from care, support work, youth work or health-care backgrounds.
- Understanding of SEND strategies, assistive communication methods, or sensory approaches is advantageous (but not essential).
- A calm, patient and compassionate approach to supporting pupils with diverse needs.
- Good teamwork skills and the confidence to take initiative when required.
- Genuine enthusiasm for helping young people grow in confidence and independence.
