Role: Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Teaching Assistant

Location: Birkenhead, Wirral

Salary: £475 – £500 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Working Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday (8:30am – 3:30pm)

Start Date: 1st September 2026

About the Role

Connex Education are supporting a primary school in Bidston, who are recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to work in their reception class. You will be supporting children with SEN. To succeed in this role, you will build relationships with the children in order to help them access the curriculum, according to their EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).

Assignment Details

This role is Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm. The position starts September 2026 and is likely to continue long term for the right person.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • A Level 2/3 teaching assistant qualification is desirable; however, those with relevant school experience will also be considered.
  • GCSE English & Maths (Grade C/4 or above for both) or equivalent Level 2.
  • Current DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for a new one through Connex.

  • Builds positive, supportive relationships with pupils and staff to support teaching & learning.
  • Committed to maintaining consistency in learning and behaviour expectations.
  • Demonstrates strong literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
  • Works collaboratively within classroom routines, showing initiative and professionalism.
  • Adapts to pupils’ varying needs and supports inclusion.
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and consistency when supporting pupils of varying needs and abilities.
  • Sound understanding of classroom roles, routines, and expectations, and how to contribute effectively to these.
  • Awareness of safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional bounds in a school setting.
