Principal Civil Design Engineer (Water)

We are currently recruiting Principal Civil Design Engineers with experience in wastewater and/or clean water networks for major water industry frameworks across the UK, including the £100 million United Utilities framework and other AMP8 programmes.

Team of Engineers, Modellers and Data Analysts supporting Water Industry clients with asset management and operational strategy development. We work with multiple major water companies.

As a key member of the Water Consultancy business, your role is critical to delivering capital delivery projects. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team on capital delivery projects and contribute to optioneering, outline, and detailed design.

• Coordinate with other disciplines and liaise effectively with clients and suppliers.
• Run projects independently.
• Prepare conceptual, schematic and detailed design of water and wastewater infrastructure assets including treatment works, pumping stations, sewers and pumping mains.
• Prepare appraisal reports and business cases.
• Supervise senior engineers, project engineers, graduate engineers and technicians.
• Prepare contract documentation for construction projects.
• Lead design team meetings and client liaison meetings as appropriate.
• Support large schemes and lead small schemes within the technical design team, providing technical guidance to water and wastewater project teams.
• Develop technical skills towards industry expertise.
• Ensure efficient project delivery and support project managers.
• Operate in accordance with corporate and regulatory health and safety, environment, and quality standards.

• Previous experience in wastewater or water infrastructure design or project management.
• Strong technical design experience on multi‑disciplinary projects.
• Infrastructure civil engineering including infrastructure developments; drainage and site layout and multi‑disciplinary design leadership.
• Good communication skills and ability to engage with all members of the project team.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, sharing knowledge and best practice.
• Good understanding of the CDM requirements.
• Proactive and keen to take ownership of client relationships and contribute to business growth.
• Strong motivation, influencing and people‑management skills to lead a team and support developing engineers.

• Preferably degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a relevant technical subject.
• Postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
• Chartered or working towards chartership.
• Affiliation with a professional institution such as IET, InstMC, or CIWEM, or in the process of working towards membership.
