The VCH Walk in Centre Service operates 7 days a week, from 8am‑8pm 365 days a year. We provide the call handling, reception and administrative support within the division. Staff are required to work closely with the Management Team as well as associated clinicians to ensure patients’ wellbeing and experience is of the highest standard.
Main duties of the job- Greet patients and visitors in a calm, friendly, and professional manner
- Register walk‑in patients accurately and efficiently on the clinical system
- Confirm patient identity, demographics, and eligibility for care
- Book, amend, and cancel appointments where required
- Liaise closely with clinicians and nursing staff to support smooth patient flow
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times
- Follow Walk‑In Centre policies, procedures, and infection control guidelines
- Prioritise patients appropriately, escalating concerns to clinical staff when needed
- Monitor waiting areas and inform clinicians of delays or capacity issues

Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING- NVQ Level 2, GCSE Level or equivalent experience
- Demonstrable working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Previous experience of dealing with the public and taking telephone enquiries
- Experience of accurate data inputting
- Good oral and written communication skills with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
- Ability to produce work of a good standard with attention to detail
- Ability to communicate sensitively with all staff groups, patients and their families
- Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Good organisational skills
- Flexible
- Ability to use own initiative but understand the need to seek advice when necessary
- Proactive
