Advanced Sexual Health Nurse

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative nurse with a passion for sexual health to join our ‘Outstanding’ integrated team providing sexual health, HIV and contraception care to clients. The post holder will be required to work daytime and evenings across sites in Birkenhead and Wallasey.
We are looking for someone who:- Has sufficient experience working in sexual health or a related service
- Is highly motivated and is able to show initiative
- Has good communication and interpersonal skills
- Has experience and knowledge of safeguarding practice and procedures
The post holder will have highly developed specialist skills and advanced knowledge in contraception and sexual and reproductive health.
To provide operational line management to the team on a daily basis
As an autonomous practitioner, undertake independent consultations with clients involving working in the clinical area with routine and specialist clinics, delivering high quality clinical services.
The post holder will also be involved in the education and training of other staff and students and support the Service Lead in the updating of clinical standards and directing service development.
To contribute to the development of best practice and facilitate shared learning to develop services and initiatives that meet local needs, in relation to aims and objectives of Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust.

Qualificationsand Professional Training
- First level registered nurse
- Contraception & reproductive health module (post registration diploma/degree level module) or equivalent
- Completion of specialist/advanced training and hold a certificate in sub‑dermal implant fitting and removal
- Sexual Health course or evidence of agreed competencies
- Health related Degree/Diploma
- Clinical mentor or equivalent post‑registration degree level module
- Completion of specialist/advanced training and hold certificate in IUD insertion
- Recent experience of working with young people within sexual health
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience of self‑management and managing others
- Clinical experience of working within sexual health/contraception field, including at least 2 years at a senior level.
- Detailed Knowledge of Safeguarding Issues
- 4 years clinical experience of working within sexual health/contraception field, including at least 2 years at a senior level
- Evidence of leading innovation and change in clinical practice
- Experience of involvement within a chlamydia screening programme
- Ability to undertake cervical cytology and act as a cervical cytology mentor
- Ability to undertake sample collection for STI screening
- Ability to undertake comprehensive sexual, medical and family history at client consultation including 1st issue of hormonal contraception according to PGDs
- Ability to fit IUD/IUS in accordance with PGD or willing to train in this skill on appointment
- Ability to fit and remove contraceptive sub‑dermal implant in accordance with PGD
- Ability to manage complex safeguarding issues
- Ability to act as clinical mentor within the service
- Ability to act as mentor for newly appointed registered practitioners and to supervise practice of new recruits.
- Can demonstrate effective leadership, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
- Counselling skills certificate
- Ability to provide tutorial sessions to medical students and junior doctors
- Ability to undertake personal development plans for designated registered practitioners after appropriate training
- Ability to undertake training in non‑medical prescribing and become an independent nurse prescriber within the service
- Evidence of ability to relate to the needs of young people
- Flexible approach to work patterns
- To act as a clinical supervisor after appropriate training
- Standard Computer Skills
- Ability to Transport self around sites and community
- Proven ability to undertake quality clinical audit and implement changes to service provision
