Established and thriving CPA firm headquartered in Birmingham, AL is looking for a Tax Accountant (preferably CPA, active or inactive) to join immediately. This is not a micromanaging environment-- this person will have the ability to self‑review to ensure their work's accuracy and should demonstrate a willingness to have an “all hands‑on‑deck” mentality!
Tax work is rarely W2’s and 1099’s, therefore excellent tax research and understanding how to correct problems in tax returns, and good understanding of basis issues in partnerships and S Corporations. Experience responding to the IRS is a plus.
Tax preparation software:
Prosystem FX Tax (required)
Time management software: CCH Practice Management (preferred).
We are hiring full‑time and part‑time. Hybrid or fully onsite.
Responsibilities- Manage tax returns and financial statements.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts for new stores.
- Work with entities to receive and post all monthly general ledger downloads into Quick Books.
- Analyze reconciliations and provide recommendations for correction and improvement.
- Perform research and respond to clients.
- Have an intermediate understanding of accounting fundamentals (e.g. Deferred Revenue, AR Allowance methods, FX conversions, etc.).
- Prepare, and review, journal entries.
- Reconcile, and review, bank accounts and all other general ledger accounts.
- Assist with audit inquiries as needed.
- Prepare quarterly board pages as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree and minimum 5+ years of related experience (1–2 years in Public Accounting or Upper‑Level Accountant in private industry).
- CPA preferred.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
