The Surgery Scheduler will schedule all of UCAs surgical procedures with the appropriate hospitals or surgical centers.
Essential Functions- Schedules surgical procedures, admissions, and consults for one to five physicians or surgeons assistants at various hospitals based on the physicians surgery template
- Enters surgery & admissions on physicians personal schedule
- Obtains all precerts, referrals or authorization required for the surgery or admission
- Verifies insurance coverage & any preexisting conditions
- Sends H&P prior to admission
- Contacts Patient & advises when surgery or admission is scheduled and provides patient with necessary instructions
- Maintains notebook with all pending surgery, consults & admissions and tracks by date to ensure all charges are accounted for
- Prepares & enters into the computer all hospital & surgery charges for assigned physicians
- Assists other Surgery Schedulers as needed
- Other duties as assigned.
This position will not supervise any other staff members.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must display an understanding of an electronic medical record in Allscripts or similar EHR/EMR.
- Must display a basic understanding of medical business office billing practices.
- Must display an advanced understanding of multi-line telephone.
- Must show the ability to have excellent interpersonal skills and communication to interact with all walks of life, internal and external to UCA, from all educational or cultural backgrounds.
- Must show the ability to work independently or within a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Must show proficiency in use of a variety of office equipment including a PC, Windows, MSOffice, EMR system, multi-line telephone, copier, facsimile machine, etc.
- Must show the ability to maintain confidentiality, including strict adherence to HIPAA and UCA Guidelines.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience as a surgery scheduler for a physician practice or surgery center.
- Allscripts electronic medical record.
