Position Title: High School Instructional Assistant
Contract: 9 Months
Employment Status:
Full-time, On-site
Qualifications
Business Writing, Applied Math, and Workplace Documents
- Completed two years of study (48 hours) at an institution of higher education, or
- Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree, or
- Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).
- Related experience working in a school or with children preferred
- Valid Alabama Substitute Teacher License preferred
To assist the teacher in achieving identified instructional goals
Job Function And Responsibilities
- Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of teachers
- Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans and related data collection
- Assist with accommodation of learning environment and materials
- Assist with implementation of behavior management plans including data collection
- Provide personal care assistance
- Collaborate with all professionals including teachers, counselor, speech therapist, social worker, occupational therapist, and physical therapist
- Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records
- Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assists them in developing appropriate social skills
- Assist with extra duties related to the supervision of students - lunch periods, assemblies, field trips, etc.
- Guide independent study, practice work, and corrective instruction directed by the teacher collecting appropriate data throughout the process
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials for classroom use
- Assist with individual and small group remediation and instructional support
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
- Work cooperatively with others
- Work effectively under the direction of others
- Use instructional technology resources as appropriate for supporting students and assisting teachers
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
- See on a continuous basis within less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away
- Hear on a continuous basis within less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away
- Speak frequently and clearly
- Transition from various positions: standing, sitting, walking, kneeling or crouching. On a rare occasion it may be necessary to move quickly, walk/run in a drill or emergency situation
- Reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling objects up to 25 pounds with or without assistance
- Agility to operate computer and other digital hardware
- Dexterity of hands and fingers for word processing
- Academic and professional for all ages
- Primarily indoors with varying temperatures
- Noise level is generally moderate
- Access to telecommunications
