Extended Day Program and Summer Camp Assistant
Highlands School is a vibrant leader in independent education in the Birmingham metropolitan region. Highlands School's whole-child focused academic program – guided by a comprehensive emphasis on physical, social-emotional, creative and intellectual development – educates and inspires students in preschool through 8th grade. The School was founded in 1958 and holds dual accreditation with the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and Cognia.
Position Overview:Highlands School is seeking an organized, energetic, and detail-oriented Extended Day Program and Summer Camp Assistant to support our after-school and summer camp programs serving students in grades 4K–8. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a school environment, thrive in a fast-paced setting, and possess strong communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Positive, professional attitude and ability to work collaboratively with staff and families.
- Assist in the daily operations of the Extended Day and Summer Camp programs.
- Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and administrators through email and phone correspondence.
- Create and maintain spreadsheets for activities, attendance, and program organization.
- Prepare and manage roll sheets and sign-in/out forms for all grade levels.
- Track and document students who attend without prior notification.
- Calculate and record miscellaneous charges as needed.
- Manage front desk operations, including student checkout and parent communication.
- Register students and maintain records in Camp Brain software.
- Organize daily schedules, activities, and counselor assignments by grade level.
- Support a safe, positive, and engaging environment for all students.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience working with children in an educational or camp setting preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace, and database systems (experience with Camp Brain preferred).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Work Schedule
- Extended Day Program: 10:00am-6:00pm during the school year.
- Summer Camp Program: Full-time as scheduled.
- Occasional evening or special event hours may be required.
