Position Title: High School Mathematics Teacher

Contract: 9 Months

Reports To: Principal

Qualifications

  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in Education
  • Valid state of Alabama teaching certificate in the appropriate field of study
  • Teaching experience preferred, particularly in Geometry with Data Analysis and Algebra with Probability

Job Goals

To help students master content standards and develop skills that support learning and collaboration, foster imagination, investigation, and innovation through execution of well‑developed lesson plans that engage students in the work created for them individually or in small groups; to assess, monitor and record student progress in multiple, approved ways and report the progress to students and parents in a professional manner

Job Functions And Responsibilities

  • Design engaging and relevant learning experiences for students aligned with learning goals
  • Encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning
  • Engage students in student‑led parent conferences
  • Emphasize learning over grading
  • View assessment as a body of student work with data gleaned from a variety of sources including anecdotal and observational data
  • Design open‑ended problems, and guide students through the problem‑solving process
  • Implement activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to further individual mastery of learning goals
  • Differentiate learning activities as necessary for each learner considering differences in content, process, and product
  • Generate learning activities based on understanding of individual student mastery
  • Nurture a culture where students view themselves as competent learners, and provide support to allow that competence to unfold
  • Create an environment where students have an opportunity to explore their own interests and develop creative projects while mastering established learning goals
  • Inspire students to impact the world with their learning
  • Seek to understand students and craft driving questions or projects aimed at igniting their passion and action
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere
  • Seek to understand the root cause of student behaviors and address them accordingly
  • Promote the general progress and well‑being of the whole child
  • Encourage learner voice and choice
  • Provide a supportive environment, and adhere to all legal requirements for students with special needs
  • Collaborate with all professionals working with special needs students
  • Collaborate regularly with professional staff to enhance learning for all students
  • Engage in high‑quality personal professional growth as a model of lifelong learning
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication
  • Use technology competently and creatively
  • Maintain and submit accurate records and reports
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information

Primary Physical Demands

  • See on a continuous basis within less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away
  • Hear on a continuous basis within less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away Speak frequently and clearly
  • Transition from various positions: standing, sitting, walking, kneeling or crouching; on a rare occasion it may be necessary to move quickly, walk/run in a drill or emergency situation
  • Reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling objects up to 25 pounds with or without assistance
  • Agility to operate computer and other digital hardware
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers for word processing

Typical Work Environment

  • Academic and professional for all ages
  • Primarily indoors with varying temperatures
  • Noise level is generally moderate
  • Access to telecommunications
