Position Summary

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for part‑time/adjunct faculty for all subjects. This is an applicant pool; individuals will be hired as needed. Submitted applications will remain on file for 36 months. Under general supervision, prepare and deliver instruction for credited academic and technical courses at the freshman and sophomore levels and perform other duties associated with institutional effectiveness.

Terms of Employment

Employed on an “As Needed” basis; local salary schedule in accordance with documented academic credentials and/or educational experiences; and not to exceed nine credit hours per semester. All exceptions must be approved by the Vice President for Instruction.

Salary:
Local Salary Schedule per contact hour – Technical Adjuncts (1‑3 years) $20.40‑$22.44 hr;
Technical Adjuncts (4+ years) $23.46 hr.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver instruction in accordance with current job‑relevant course syllabi and training plans.
  • Adhere to the learning management system (Blackboard) for posting course material, announcements, calendars, presentations, assignments, and test dates.
  • Supplement lectures and demonstrations with multimedia materials and demonstrate safe use of equipment.
  • Incorporate safety, health, and fire prevention in all instruction.
  • Maintain an environment conducive to learning and supervise students, maintaining discipline in class, lab, and shop.
  • Develop laboratory projects that relate theory to practical application.
  • Distribute a current syllabus each term outlining objectives, outline, evaluation methods, schedule, lab/shop rules, required books, supplies, and equipment.
  • Administer written and performance examinations and record student progress via progress charts or the LMS.
  • Teach and enforce good work habits.
  • Submit a plan to the department chairperson and supervising administrators for any absence.
  • Communicate student progress to students and appropriate personnel per established guidelines.
  • Supervise students in cooperative educational settings (when applicable).
  • Respond promptly to student requests, usually within 24‑48 hours.
  • Follow regulations regarding online instruction (when applicable).
  • Facilitate instructional methodologies for programs requiring industry chemicals/products.
  • Maintain permanent roll and accurate attendance of students; submit attendance reports on time.
  • Follow the state and institution’s grading system and submit grades each term by the due date.
  • Submit forms to the registrar when student status changes and assist students in submitting graduation documents.
  • Participate in departmental orientation and communicate announcements as directed.
  • Follow institutional and system policies, procedures, and guidelines, including FERPA regulations and ADA accommodation requirements.
Qualifications
  • Hold a minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent in the teaching discipline.
  • Three (3) years of successful full‑time experience as a practitioner in the field.
  • Alabama Cosmetology instructor license required for the Cosmetology division.
