Position Summary

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for part‑time/adjunct faculty for all subjects. Individuals will be hired as needed. Under general supervision, prepare and deliver instruction for credited academic and technical courses at the freshmen and sophomore levels and perform other duties associated with institutional effectiveness. Joined applicants will remain on file for 36 months.

Terms of Employment

Employed on an "As Needed" basis; local salary schedule in accordance with documented academic credentials and/or educational experiences; not to exceed nine credit hours per semester. All exceptions must be approved by the Vice President for Instruction.

Salary

Local Salary Schedule (based on credentials and area of assignment): $18.03‑$23.84 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all requirements regarding the learning management system (Blackboard), including posting syllabi, announcements, calendars, presentations, assignments, and test dates.
  • Teach from current job‑relevant course syllabi and training plan.
  • Supplement lectures and demonstrations with multimedia materials.
  • Demonstrate safe use of each piece of equipment used in the training plan.
  • Include safety, health, and fire prevention as an integral part of instruction.
  • Maintain an environment conducive to learning.
  • Supervise students and maintain discipline in class, lab, and shop.
  • Develop laboratory projects that enable students to relate theory to practical application through laboratory assignments.
  • Distribute a current syllabus at the beginning of each term containing objectives, outline, methods of evaluation, activity schedule, lab/shop rules, necessary books, supplies, and equipment.
  • Administer written and performance examinations systematically to determine students' progress, including final examinations.
  • Implement a system of recording student progress (e.g., progress charts, Blackboard). Teach and demand good work habits from students.
  • Submit a plan for absence to the department chairperson and supervising administrators.
  • Communicate students' progress to students and appropriate personnel by established guidelines.
  • Supervise students in cooperative educational settings (when applicable).
  • Respond to students' requests promptly, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Follow all regulations regarding online instruction (when applicable).
  • Facilitate instructional methodologies for programs requiring industry chemicals/products.
  • Maintain permanent roll and accurate attendance of students.
  • Submit attendance reports as required on time.
  • Follow the state and institution's adopted grading system and submit grades each term by the due date.
  • Submit forms to the registrar when changes occur in students' status.
  • Assist students in submitting required documents for graduation.
  • Participate in departmental orientation.
  • Communicate announcements to students as directed by the administration.
  • Follow institutional and system policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Adhere to FERPA regulations and report any known violations.
  • Adhere to ADA accommodation requirements when presented with official documentation.
Qualifications

Adult Education (Part‑Time) Instructors must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Some teaching experience preferred.
