• Support the improvement of instruction with an emphasis on Tier I instruction to ensure students do not fall behind.
• Collaborate with the school principal and faculty to establish and implement a strategic plan for coaching and mathematics instruction to improve student achievement in mathematics.
• Facilitate school wide mathematics professional learning, including job-embedded assistance using coaching strategies such as joint preplanning, modeling lessons, co-teaching lessons, targeted observation to collect data, and debriefing.
• Model evidence-based mathematics instructional and intervention strategies for teachers.
• Mentor and coach teachers continuously.
• Assist teachers in using data to differentiate mathematics instruction and identify students exhibiting characteristics of dyscalculia and other exceptionalities.
• Mentor the progress of K-5 students in mathematics through benchmark formative assessments at least three times per year and make recommendations for instruction modifications based on individual needs and student data trends.
• Focus solely as a mathematics coach for elementary schools.
• Collaborate with teachers and grade-level teams to foster the use of appropriate instructional materials, including concrete materials, to ensure student understanding of mathematical concepts.
• Work with grade-level teams to develop rigorous tasks, lessons, and assessments aligned with grade-level standards; analyze student work and assessment data; provide real-time feedback; and support next-step instructional decisions.
• Assist teachers in using formative assessments and analyzing misconceptions, students with characteristics of dyscalculia, and students needing acceleration.
• Support teachers in administering early numeracy screening or diagnostic assessments in grades K-2, with assistance not exceeding two hours per week.
• Assist teachers with fractional reasoning assessments for grades 4-5, subject to legislative funding, with assistance not exceeding two hours per week.
• Coordinate with the principal for school-based family and community engagement in mathematics.
• Participate in regional visits and professional learning with the Office of Mathematics Improvement and AMSTI specialists.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge, skills, and expertise.
• Facilitate the use of assessment data across all tiers to improve student performance in mathematics.
• Plan or facilitate professional learning to target student deficits, promote professional conversations, foster engagement, assess learning, and reflect on practice.
• Record job duties and time spent with teachers on a state-specified electronic platform.
• Support teachers in integrating computer science and computational thinking in mathematics classrooms.
