Adjunct Early Child Education Instructor

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for a part‑time/adjunct faculty position across multiple subjects. Applicants will be hired on an “as needed” basis, with no more than nine credit hours per semester.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, prepare and deliver instruction for credited academic and technical courses at Lawson State at the freshman and sophomore coursework levels and perform other duties and tasks associated with institutional effectiveness. This is an applicant pool; individuals will be hired as needed. Submitted applications will remain on file for 36 months.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all requirements for the learning management system (Blackboard) – posting course syllabi, announcements, calendars, presentations, assignments, and test dates.
  • Teach from current job‑relevant course syllabi and training plans.
  • Supplement lectures and demonstrations with multimedia materials.
  • Demonstrate to students the safe use of each piece of equipment used in the training plan and include safety, health, and fire prevention as an integral part of instruction.
  • Maintain an environment conducive to learning; supervise students and maintain discipline in class, lab, and shop.
  • Develop laboratory projects that connect theory to practical application through assignments.
  • Provide students with a current syllabus at the beginning of each term, outlining course objectives, outline, methods of evaluation, schedule of activities, lab/shop rules, and required materials.
  • Administer written and performance examinations to assess student progress and administer final examinations.
  • Implement a system for recording student progress (progress charts, Blackboard or equivalent).
  • Teach and encourage good work habits; communicate students’ progress to students and appropriate personnel by established guidelines.
  • Supervise students in cooperative educational settings when applicable.
  • Respond to students’ requests promptly, typically within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Follow all regulations regarding online instruction and facilitate instructional methodologies for programs involving industry chemicals/products.
  • Submit a plan to the department chairperson and supervising administrators for absence coverage.
Recordkeeping
  • Maintain permanent roll and accurate attendance of students.
  • Submit attendance reports promptly.
  • Follow the state and institution’s adopted grading system.
  • Submit grades each term by the due date.
  • Submit forms to the registrar when student status changes.
  • Assist students in submitting required documents for graduation.
Enforcement of College Policies
  • Participate in departmental orientation.
  • Communicate student announcements as directed by administration.
  • Follow institutional and system policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Adhere to FERPA regulations and report any known violations.
  • Adhere to ADA accommodation requirements when presented with official documentation.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree (or equivalent) and 18 graduate semester hours (27 graduate quarter hours) in the teaching discipline.
