Director of Student Ministry

Overview: Saint Mark UMC in Birmingham, AL is seeking its next full-time director of Student Ministry. Saint Mark has 625+ members, and the Director will be part of an executive leadership team that shapes the overarching ministry of the church. Forming young disciples of Jesus Christ is at the heart of responsibilities. This should be accomplished by leading a broad base of volunteers, parents, and students to help current students grow in their relationship with Jesus, while actively seeking relationships with new Junior High and Senior High students in the community.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, develop, and oversee all aspects of a balanced student ministry, including (but not limited to) Sunday School, UMYF, Retreats, mid-week Bible Study, small groups, and missions
• Prepare and manage a budget for student activities
• Work closely with Kids Ministry to transition students into student ministry
• Serve on Executive Leadership Team to assist in developing church-wide projects
• Serve as a liaison for college ministry
• Maintain alignment of Student Ministry with the values and mission of the church
• Perform other duties as directed by the Senior Pastor

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years experience in ministry preferred
• Experience in organizing multiple projects and events
• Highly organized; flexible
• Skills in conflict management
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Exemplary oral & written skills
• Ability to form relationships with students
• Ability to recruit, train, and deploy spiritual leaders
• Desire to grow in leadership skills

• Support of United Methodist theology
• Commitment to personal spiritual growth as a disciple of Jesus Christ
• Models standards and expectations of leaders at Saint Mark UMC
