Job Description

We are seeking candidates for a tenure-earning faculty position in the Marnix

E. Heersink School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB ) in Birmingham, Alabama.
We wish to hire a Neuroscientist in pain research at the rank of Associate Professor, tenure earning. The successful candidate must be a recognized international expert in peripheral pain mechanisms and pathogenesis. Candidates with experience in models addressing visceral, urogenital, or reproductive pain syndromes will be given priority.
The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine stresses excellence in research. The successful candidate will need to show a consistent track record of extramural funding, excellence in teaching and training of junior scientists, ideally with a track record of working with and mentoring post-doctoral fellows and clinicians. This position will serve in a critical capacity as leader of research programs in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, the Heersink School of Medicine and campus-wide initiatives in neuroscience, pain, and addiction research.
The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with existing faculty in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and the broader UAB community with ongoing research efforts as well as participate in the educational mission of the Department and engage in service to the Department and University.
Our research footprint extends over 6,000 square feet of recently renovated laboratory space with the most advanced equipment in the second and third floor of the Pitman Biomedical Research Building II.

Required Qualifications

PhD in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering).
Evidence of sustained academic research or investigative approaches through their training period and as Assistant Professor in an academic medicine environment

Preferred Qualifications

An internationally recognized research program in pain research. A consistent and exemplary record of scholarly activity. Excellence in teaching, mentorship and education. A consistent record of collaboration with clinicians, clinical and translational scientists in both scholarly activity and advancing clinical care in pain and neuroscience.
