JOB DESCRIPTION:

To support the implementation and rollout of the teacher, administrator and central office evaluation system in Birmingham City Schools. TEIS’s will be assigned to learning communities to support school leaders and teachers with training, technical assistance, and with providing feedback on instructional practices related to the evaluation tool.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 75% of time weekly will be devoted to providing direct support to school leaders and/or teachers with implementation of the teacher, administrator and central office evaluation tool and related processes.
  • As needed or as assigned, will facilitate “demonstration” observations/conferences using the evaluation tool with school leaders and/or with teachers.
  • Will collect, research, synthesize, identify data relationships, and design workflows and procedures to assist teachers in professional growth using resources associated with the evaluation model.
  • Will provide support, training, technical assistance, guidance and feedback to teachers in enhancing their instructional practices and student growth measures using evaluation model resources.
  • Must communicate effectively with site-based administrators and other staff, as needed.
  • Will engage in community of practice with other TEISs to collaborate on responsibilities and strategies to enhance teacher performance and capacity.
  • Will be expected to foster a quality focus in others, set clear expectations/requirements, measure key outcomes, solicit and apply customer feedback to improve processes and services.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and establish and maintain a positive collaborative relationship with members of schools and district staff.
  • Collaborates with school and district Curriculum and Instruction personnel to ensure that school level instructional programs are consistent with the state and local courses of study and to assist teachers and principals in the effective implementation of those programs.
  • Must engage in ongoing professional learning, demonstrates professional ethics and participate in district meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Responds to questions and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintain an efficient calendar, accurate records, and timely schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field with teacher certification in elementary or secondary education, special education, or any specific content area.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher with lead/mentor teacher, department chair, or instructional coaching experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION:
  • Administrative experience and administrative certificate
EXPERIENCE:
  • Ten (10) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher with lead/mentor teacher, department chair, or instructional coaching experience.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:
  • Requires demonstrated leadership and strong interpersonal skills; and requires in-depth knowledge of proven strategies in building the instructional delivery capacity of classroom teachers.
  • Requires the ability to learn and apply new information quickly and the ability to adjust and be flexible while working in a position that may change depending upon the needs of the organization.
