LBYD was founded in 1973 with the incorporation of
E. Glenn Bishop & Associates. In 1978, with the merger of the structural engineering firm Lane & Hodnett Structural Engineers, the firm became Lane/Bishop/Hodnett, Inc. In 1987, the firm became Lane Bishop York Delahay Inc., which is known today as LBYD Engineers. In 2001, LBYD began offering civil engineering services. With the addition of the civil department and the continued commitment of our structural department, LBYD has experienced growth at a phenomenal rate.
We continue to pursue growth opportunities evidenced by opening more branch offices throughout the Southeast region.
PURPOSE:
The Design Engineer (DE) is an entry-level engineering position. The Design Engineer works in a collaborative team environment under the supervision of senior engineers. The Design Engineer performs routine engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles to complete project requirements. They are assigned specific tasks on a project, and are expected to use their education, intelligence and critical thinking to perform job responsibilities.
The DE will learn the different aspects of a project and learn how to complete tasks required to assemble a set of plans.
- Perform structural design calculations, interpreting building codes
- Documenting all project communications
- Instructing BIM Modelers how to turn designs into completed structural drawings
- Assist in structural engineering evaluations, reports, analyses and designs for existing and new facilities and other related opportunities
- Participate in site visits
- Review of contractor’s submittals
- Review shop drawing submittals and request for information
- Research and identify governing criteria, codes, guides, and best practices
- Work under the supervision of project managers, senior structural designers, and other senior-level team members
- May be asked to travel to out-of-town/state assignments
- Work alongside functional departments to fulfill corporate needs

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Other responsibilities as required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering w/ Structural Focus or related undergraduate degree.
- 0-2 years’ experience
Skills:
- Basic understanding of Revit
- Proficient use of Engineering Design Software
- Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and methods
- Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles

- Required to have passed or is preparing to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.

Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body, involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
