Civil Engineering, Water Engineer, Site Manager
Brasfield & Gorrie is hiring a Civil Site Engineer to join the Civil & Geotech Practice inside the Design & Engineering department. This role focuses on the site civil engineering that supports B&G’s building project portfolio — grading and earthwork, stormwater and drainage design, utility layout, erosion control, and site-civil permitting for industrial, healthcare, commercial, and mixed-use projects across the Southeast.
Because B&G leads the design as the GC, you work directly with the project team — preconstruction, estimating, and field operations — throughout the design process. You are not handing off drawings to a builder after the fact. You are designing with the team that constructs the project, which means real-time input on constructability, sequencing, and cost that most consulting engineers never get.
This role targets a Senior Engineer I or II depending on experience and licensure. We are primarily looking for someone with 8 to 12 years of site civil experience, but we encourage candidates with six or more years and strong technical foundations to apply. Scope of responsibility and reporting will be calibrated to where the right candidate actually lands.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties Site Civil Design- Lead the site civil engineering for building projects — including industrial, healthcare, mixed-use, and commercia[ST2.1]l — from schematic through construction documents.
- Design grading and earthwork plans, including cut/fill balancing, site geometry, and construction sequencing coordination with field operations.
- Design stormwater management and drainage systems: detention and retention ponds, bioretention, underground systems, outfall design, and conveyance networks.
- Design utility layouts including water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems in coordination with MEP and civil consultants.
- Prepare erosion and sedimentation control plans compliant with applicable state NPDES and local land disturbance requirements.
- Design site access, internal circulation, and pavement sections in coordination with structural and preconstruction teams.
- Prepare construction documents, calculations, and reports suitable for permit submittal and agency review, sealed in accordance with applicable state PE licensure laws.
- Support preconstruction teams on design-build pursuits by developing conceptual site civil schemes, identifying permitting risk, and preparing rough order-of-magnitude civil cost input.
- Participate in design-build RFP reviews and proposal development, providing civil site scope definition and technical input.
- Identify site constraints early — floodplain, streams & wetlands, utility conflicts, jurisdictional requirements — and communicate impacts to the project team during preconstruction.
- Provide value engineering input on civil scope during preconstruction, including earthwork optimization, stormwater credit strategies, and utility routing alternatives.
- Manage site civil permitting across multiple jurisdictions — including land disturbance permits, stormwater management plan approvals, utility connection permits, and floodplain development permits.
- Coordinate with local municipalities, counties, state DOTs, and environmental agencies on permit submittals, review cycles, and approvals.
- Respond to agency comments, prepare resubmittals, and manage permit timelines in coordination with the project schedule.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory changes in target jurisdictions (Alabama, Georgia, and other Southeast states) that affect land development and site civil work.
- Coordinate with structural engineers, MEP engineers, VDC staff, and external…
