Sterile Supply Technician – SOD (T229032)
DescriptionThe University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Sterile Supply Technician‑SOD to operate all sterilizing equipment in accordance with current regulations. The position monitors and reports technical problems with equipment and autoclaves, maintains inventory of sterilization chemicals and supplies, and collects, cleans, decontaminates, disinfects, and sterilizes dental instruments, trays, packs, and patient care equipment to ensure sterility and functionality.
The technician also performs hand washing and cold sterilization of equipment as indicated by CDC sterilization guidelines.
This role is vital to maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient clinical environment. The technician ensures that all dental instruments are properly cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use by faculty, staff, and students. The position is fast‑paced, hands‑on, and requires meticulous attention to detail, reliability, and adherence to strict infection control protocols. Previous experience in a dental or medical setting is helpful but not required;
training will be provided.
Hourly Rate: $15.00 – $16.14
Qualifications- High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in sterile supply required.
- Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) with the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to follow strict protocols, and familiarity with infection control standards in a clinical or dental setting.
- Soft skills valued include reliability, effective communication, and teamwork in a fast‑paced environment.
