Position Summary
The Radiation Therapist III has the knowledge and skills to serve as a mentor, educator, and information source for all others in the Radiation Therapy department regarding specialty equipment.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions
- Serve as a mentor, educator, and information source for the Radiation Therapy department regarding specialty equipment.
- Participate in educational sessions for continued competency as required by the Chief Radiation Therapist or Chief of Radiotherapy Physics.
- Flex work schedule to meet departmental needs.
- Implement the patient's planned course of treatment as prescribed by Radiation Oncologists.
- Follow predetermined treatment parameters set during patient simulation and planning.
- Coordinate with all areas in Radiation Oncology for scheduling, planning, evaluation, and implementation of treatment.
- Collaborate with departments within and outside UF Health Cancer Center for multidisciplinary care.
- Assist QA Therapist in ensuring the operational integrity of accelerators.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with hospital policies and regulations.
- Comply with all hospital policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
- Reinforce patient education on diet and side effects management.
- Consult with appropriate departments for patient concerns outside the therapist's expertise.
- Perform daily patient-related activities as per policies.
- Report equipment malfunctions and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Document treatment data, patient well-being, charges, and scheduled procedures.
- Understand relevant governmental statutes and regulations regarding ionizing radiation.
- Complete all continuing education requirements as mandated.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of radiation therapy, including teletherapy, brachytherapy, radiosurgery, and stereotactic radiotherapy.
- Participate in weekend and holiday call schedules and morning rotations.
- Be flexible with hours and locations to meet patient and departmental needs.
- Participate in community service and educational events.
- Provide appropriate care considering the age and needs of patients.
Education/Training
- Graduate from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy.
Licensure/Certification
- ARRT registered.
- Maintain current licensure by the State of Alabama.
- Maintain current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
Experience
- Four (4) years of experience as a Therapist II or one (1) year as a lead in an external or special modality.
