ASCEND Program Overview
Southern Company is implementing the ASCEND program to modernize customer experience, replace meter data management (MDM) and customer service systems (CSS) with a new Oracle Customer Information System (CIS) called Customer to Meter (C2M), and launch advanced analytics, customer experience (CX) and commercial engagement (CEP) platforms across Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Mississippi Power.
Job Description – CIS MDM Project Technology SR Application AnalystThis role partners with Southern Company’s Power Delivery, Customer Service, and Metering Services business units and the Technology Organization to develop and support Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Metering applications. The incumbent ensures timely, reliable, quality solutions and support for Metering and AMI business customers.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as single point of customer contact for assigned Metering/AMI applications
- Act as subject matter expert for business processes, data/workflow, and reports
- Own end‑to‑end solutions, including impact analysis, release and plan management, and production deployments
- Manage production deployments, verification testing, and user implementation support
- Coordinate user acceptance, bug tracking, and vendor interface
- Troubleshoot and resolve application quality issues and maintain disaster recovery plans
- Support application life‑cycle management and change control compliance
- Travel occasionally within the Southern Company footprint
- Establish quality relationships with peers, management, vendors, and customers
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Manage simultaneous production support and project activities
- Work effectively with limited direct supervision
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Risk assessment and mitigation capabilities
- Technical writing and business requirement documentation
- Estimate project costs and timelines
- Self‑starter with initiative and ownership of assignments
- B.S., B.A., or B.B.A. in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, Business, or related field (required)
- Demonstrated technical understanding of application frameworks and technologies
- Experience supporting Linux systems, shell scripts, Java/J2EE, C#/.Net (preferred)
- REST/SOAP Web Services knowledge;
Windows Azure and/or Amazon Web Services familiarity - Oracle database, SQL, PL/SQL, and performance tuning for large datasets
- Knowledge of Metering and AMI operations within Southern Company
- Experience supporting vendor applications highly preferred
- Power Delivery/Customer Service experience or support role desired
- High initiative, personal responsibility, and ownership of assignments
- Strong interpersonal skills and cross‑functional collaboration
- Effective multitasking and prioritization of workload
- Desire to be a student of the business and a strong student of the technology environment
