Attorney – Coverage and Commercial Litigation

We are looking for a Litigation Associate to join our team. The role involves working with partners, associates, paralegals, and legal assistants on complex cases, typically involving medical and accident records and technical issues. The individual will build client relationships and deliver exceptional customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Analytical skills: analyze and reason independently and apply law to case facts.
  • Writing skills: communicate points and ideas clearly, effectively, and succinctly in written format; proofread for grammar and typos.
  • Verbal skills: communicate effectively with clients, insurers, witnesses and counsel.
  • Timeliness: consistently complete and submit assignments on time.
  • Flexibility under pressure: revise priorities and meet deadlines, accommodating partners’ schedules.
  • Identify legal issues independently or seek guidance when appropriate.
  • Ethical practice of law: uphold ethical standards.
  • Case understanding: apply technical/medical knowledge to case development and advocacy.
  • Judgment: make and accept responsibility for reasonable decisions.
  • Creative approach: resourceful and imaginative client problem‑solving.
  • Deposition handling: take opposing expert and plaintiff depositions, defend and prepare clients.
  • Mediation representation: represent client independently at mediation.
  • Trial participation: take major role at trial as appropriate for experience.
  • Client development: promote/expand relationships with existing and new clients.
  • Time entry and billing: enter and release time in time‑keeping software promptly.
  • Accessibility: available during regular office hours, after hours and weekends.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA‑approved law school.
  • Member in good standing with the Alabama Bar.
  • Preferred: two years of litigation/coverage experience in insurance defense.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and grip.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
