Purchasing Assistant

Automation Personnel Services is looking for a detail-oriented and organized Purchasing Assistant to join a dynamic team located in Birmingham, AL.

$17 per hour

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Some flexibility on start and end times).

• Identify stock and non-stock items in People Soft for quotation.
• Contact suppliers via email or phone to obtain pricing and lead times, also negotiate discount pricing.
• Format RFQs for comparison and cost-savings analysis.
• Assist with resolving and following up on supply problems.
• Assist with placing orders with various suppliers.
• Support purchasing activities, including the preparation, analysis, and review of sourcing decisions and short-term purchasing agreements.

• Minimum of 2 years of supply chain experience required.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Self-motivated and able to complete daily responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office products.
• General business knowledge.
• Purchasing experience preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and sometimes stressful environment.
• Good oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to speak and understand Spanish is desired.
• Experience with People Soft and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

The majority of the positions are performed in an office environment. Occasional travel to project sites and supplier locations may be required, including possible overseas travel. Visits to manufacturing, mining, or foundry locations may also be necessary. PPE, including steel-toe boots, hard hat, and safety glasses, is required when visiting applicable project sites.

Full-time, temporary with temp-to-hire opportunities.
