About the Job

Books-A-Million, Inc., headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, is looking for a Digital Marketing Intern to join our Dotcom / Digital Marketing team. This is a part-time, on-site internship (maximum of 20 hours per week) based at our Corporate Office on Industrial Lane. We operate stores nationwide and online at  across our family of brands:
Books-A-Million, 2nd & Charles, Joe Muggs and Yogurt Mountain. As part of a company that has been in business for over 100 years, you will help launch and manage the loyalty and digital marketing programs that keep our customers coming back.

  • Pay: $17/hour

Role Summary

The Digital Marketing Intern will assist, learn and execute new Loyalty Program and Digital Marketing initiatives launching across all marketing channels nationwide, including In-Store, Online, Email, SMS, Owned Social, Paid Social and Paid Search. Our team’s work runs through BAM’s Enterprise Claude AI, so the intern will use Claude every day for analysis, reporting and project work. Working closely with the marketing, creative, merchandising and store teams, the intern will help bring initiatives from planning through launch, confirm programs are running correctly, and measure their success.

This role offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment with dedicated mentorship and a capstone presentation to leadership.

Role Responsibilities

Loyalty & Digital Marketing Execution

  • Assist in the implementation of new Loyalty Program marketing initiatives, including Millionaire’s Club and 2nd & Charles Rewards, from planning through launch.
  • Help launch and manage digital marketing initiatives across all marketing channels:
    In-Store, Online, Email, SMS, Owned Social, Paid Social and Paid Search.
  • Support the marketing side of our website and ecommerce revamp by helping integrate digital marketing programs into the new site.
  • Confirm programs are live, running correctly and consistent across every channel.
  • Conduct proofing and quality assurance of loyalty and campaign assets across marketing platforms.

Performance Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze program performance weekly against the success metrics provided by department leadership, and recommend actionable next steps.
  • Help monitor key loyalty and engagement metrics such as enrollment, retention, open rates, CTR and conversion.
  • Use BAM’s Enterprise Claude AI, where Dotcom data and projects are housed, to support analysis, reporting and project work.
  • Coordinate with marketing, creative, merchandising and store teams to gather assets and keep initiatives on schedule.
  • Communicate project status updates and performance results to key stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned. The intern may be cross-trained in web analytics, customer analytics, email and digital advertising.

Role Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration (Marketing), Ecommerce, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Consumer Behavior, Customer Experience or a related field (rising junior or senior).
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using Claude AI for research, analysis, writing or reporting. Coding experience is not required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Strong time management and organization skills.
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Teamwork and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
