Advanced Practice Provider – UAB Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.
Shift: Full‑time, 12‑hour PM shifts (7 pm–7 am) with rotating weekends/holidays and occasional call. An annual PM shift stipend of $20,000 and a $2,000 CME allowance for full‑time benefited APPs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide medical care and treatment within scope of practice for surgical patients under the direction of a collaborating physician.
- Coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals; perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
- Interpret and order laboratory and diagnostic tests; maintain documentation and records per regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission.
- Assist physicians with procedures per collaborative agreement and participate in performance improvement activities.
- Provide education to patients, families and other healthcare providers; serve as an expert clinical resource in the specialty area.
- Coordinate patient transitions from ICU to floor, LTAC, SNF, rehab, or home; progress chronically ill patients toward discharge.
- Contribute to research protocols and training of new clinical personnel.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Based on thorough physical and psychosocial assessments, formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions.
- Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
- Maintain records and reports required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission.
- Assist in performance and quality improvement activities and research initiatives.
- Provide orientation and training to new clinical staff as needed.
- Master's degree in Nursing with Adult Acute Care NP certification, or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience is preferred (not a substitute for educational requirement).
- Advanced Practice Nurse, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (required or to be obtained within 30 days of employment).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required.
- Knowledge of procedures, protocols, diagnostic and treatment techniques.
- Proficient with computer systems and related software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; strong interpersonal skills.
- Self‑directed, self‑motivated; able to multitask and problem‑solve.
- Works effectively as part of a team and independently; maintains patient confidentiality.
