Position Overview
The OR Team Leader - Heart & Vascular Center PRU - AM (750) at UAB Medicine is a full‑time AM position. The Heart & Vascular Center (HVC) is a 48‑bed unit supporting cardiac, neuro‑interventional, and interventional radiology patients. The unit includes 15 procedure labs and partners with the cath (ACL), electrophysiology (EP), vascular interventional radiology (VIR), and neuro interventional labs. Staff perform procedures such as cardioversions, ablations, ECMO, angioplasty, nephrostomy, biliary drains, thrombectomy, and TEE. The setting is dynamic and fast‑paced, requiring continuous critical assessment and team leadership.
Staff may be on call 5‑8 days per month, including after hours, weekends, and holidays, and must respond within 30 minutes for emergent cases.
Lead the nursing team’s activities, aligning practice with university philosophy, standards, and goals. Serve as clinician, educator, consultant, and manager, providing patient care and supporting team members. Maintain required competencies for safe and legal practice. Manage scheduling, quality outcomes, budgeting, and assist the nurse manager with human resources responsibilities.
QualificationsAssociate’s degree in Nursing and eighteen (18) months of related experience (education requirement cannot be waived by work experience). Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing. Preferred certifications: CNOR for OR staff, CPAN or CAPA for Pre‑Op/PACU, with evidence of longevity in position. Candidates without prior critical care experience may receive additional training.
