General Summary

This is a 2-year appointment that serves as a research trainee for the purpose of enhancing and developing research and drug development competencies. In this appointment, the postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for providing synthetic chemistry support for small molecule drug discovery and medicinal chemistry optimization. The researcher will participate in designing and conducting highly technical synthetic chemical operations under the supervision of a senior scientist and will analyze research data, provide interpretations, contribute to the development of research documentation for publications and provide technical reports and records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Synthesizes, purifies, and fully characterizes compounds for the assigned projects
  • Participates in designing and conducting highly technical and complex research projects under the direction of a supervisor
  • Develops structure‑activity relationships under the direction of a supervisor
  • Maintains E‑notebooks in real time with detailed and accurate procedures and complete analytical data attached
  • Identifies, compiles and evaluates data sources, background information and technology related to the area of specialization; some examples would be searching Sci Finder for synthetic routes and commercially available compounds
  • Prepares weekly updates for weekly meetings with PI/Supervisor
  • Prepares updates for project team meetings for assigned projects
  • Contributes to progress reports, patent applications and publications using available data from assigned projects
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment
  • Maintains external awareness of scientific discipline through familiarity of current scientific literature
  • Orders chemicals and lab supplies; registers chemicals and updates the laboratory inventory spreadsheet and the EHS chemical inventory
  • Processes and registers synthesized analogs as well as prepare and ship/deliver samples for testing
  • Implements and observes appropriate safety requirements following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry
  • Visa sponsorship (now or in the future) is not available for this position; applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Strong synthetic organic chemistry background required
  • Keen interest in understanding the application of medicinal chemistry principles
  • Research experience in this field of specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures, and methods of analysis
  • Ability to observe appropriate safety requirements
  • Competency in Chem Draw, Mest Re Nova , Sci Finder, Microsoft Office Suite products and other relevant software
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment
