The Painter I applies preparatory materials, paints, and stains to surfaces of walls, ceilings, equipment, and furniture. This role prepares and applies appropriate materials to signage and irregular surfaces such as parking lots, streets, and athletic play areas.

XSt. Vincent's Hospital – Birmingham, AL.

Responsibilities
  • Apply protective and decorative coats of paint, varnish, lacquer, and related materials to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment, and other property.
  • Prepare surfaces by washing, scraping, sanding, torching, and/or smoothing prior to applying finishing materials.
  • Install, repair, and maintain drywall, wall texturing, vinyl wall coverings, and ceiling acoustic texturing.
  • Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
  • Maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment for ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
  • Maintain existing paint surfaces by matching/tinting appropriate paint products.
  • Determine appropriate color for new or replacement applications through consultation with customers.
  • Maintain equipment and keep work areas clean and safe.
  • Properly store, clean, and dispose of all supplies and equipment used according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Safely handle and appropriately dispose of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials, and other hazardous materials.
  • Operate compressors, stripping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other small power equipment.
  • Operate heavy lift equipment including scissors and boom swing stage to heights of 80 feet.
  • Erect various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders, and planks to reach surfaces of work area for Painters and others.
  • Creation and application of graphics and signage layouts according to DOT, Safety, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements to meet state and federal regulations.
Special Projects – 20%
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Assist and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide additional support and training to team members in basic paint trade practices as needed.
Qualifications
  • 1+ year relevant experience.
  • Graduate of trade school.
  • Other equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.
