Key

Duties & Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance
  • Performs advanced electrical and fire alarm system installation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex electrical and fire alarm issues.
  • Maintains documentation related to inspections, certifications, and maintenance schedules.
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies, electrical codes, and safety regulations.
  • Coordinates and leads required fire alarm testing and regulatory inspections.
  • Attends safety meetings and completes required training.
Leadership & Technical Support
  • Trains, mentors, and supports electricians to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to standards.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and technical resource for the electrical team.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience is required. Associates degree OR

technical diploma in Electrical Systems, Electrical Technology or a related field is preferred.

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations
  • State of Alabama (or reciprocal state) Master Card, plus
  • NICET FAS II, plus
  • City of Birmingham Journeyman or Master Card license prior to employment, plus
  • ASHE Health Care Physical Environment Worker Certification required within six months of employment, plus

Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current guidelines include possession of a valid driver's license issued in the United States, at least 21 years of age and at least 3 years of driving experience. Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to manage work orders, using a handheld device
  • Ability to work an on‑call work schedule
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Ability to recognize the rights and responsibilities of patient confidentiality
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with people from every socioeconomic, cultural and educational background; exhibit flexibility and cope effectively in an ever‑changing, fast‑paced healthcare environment
  • Ability to perform effectively when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual or dangerous situations
  • Must be able to maintain a customer focus and strive to satisfy the customer's perceived needs.
  • Must be able to safely perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding and working at heights exceeding 30 feet.
