Accountant Construction

Job Description

Kingfisher Recruiting has been hired to find an Accountant for a Construction company based in Birmingham. The most qualified candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, 10 years of experience and will have experience in Construction or a similar high volume transaction industry.

Salary: $70-80k

The company has a strong working culture and it’s a great place to work. This role is supported by an in-house CPA who will handle Month End reports.

• Process high-volume vendor invoices accurately and on time
• Match invoices to purchase orders, contracts, and receiving documents
• Code expenses to appropriate jobs, phases, and cost codes
• Manage subcontractor payments, including lien waivers and compliance documentation
• Resolve invoice discrepancies and communicate with vendors as needed
• Prepare and process weekly check runs and electronic payments

• Generate and send customer invoices based on contracts, progress billings, and change orders
• Track receivables and follow up on past-due accounts
• Apply customer payments accurately and reconcile AR balances
• Work with project managers to resolve billing questions or disputes

• Reconcile AP and AR subledgers to the general ledger
• Maintain organized and accurate financial records
• Support audits and provide documentation as requested
• Collaborate with internal teams to improve processes and efficiency

• 10+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or a project-based environment
• Strong AP and AR experience with high transaction volume
• Strong experience with Quick Books
• Familiarity with job costing, cost codes, and construction workflows
• Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
